resolve

1re·solve

verb \ri-ˈzälv, -ˈzlv also -ˈzäv or -ˈzv\
: to find an answer or solution to (something) : to settle or solve (something)
: to make a definite and serious decision to do something
: to make a formal decision about something usually by a vote

res·o·lu·tion

 noun \ˌre-zə-ˈlü-shən\
: the act of finding an answer or solution to a conflict, problem, etc. : the act of resolving something

interesting how we are asking to settle something upon the turning of a new year. figure this out. make a change and settle it for once and for all. "make a definite and serious decision," a formal decision. find "an answer or solution to a conflict, problem." how serious.

perhaps we jump too quickly into resolutions.
commit to something too big so that we assuredly will not fulfill our goals that we've been asked to set. to resolve.

i've been thinking a lot lately about WHAT and HOW i am going to live. i don't have any solutions, probably never will, but here are some tactics and strategies for 2014:

-hold on to what's good, let go of what's bad
simple enough, but often enough i am chasing down something that need not be chased. if there's something good enough to work for, work for it. but don't lose your breath. also, let go of the connections that will never be fulfilling for you, and haven't been for a long time. do regular check ins to make sure that you are being true to yourself most of the time, while also being compassionate and caring for others.
-be lighter in your mind, break open your heart
smile when you are happy. laugh loudly when things are funny. enjoy these nice things. "break open your heart": be open and willing to extend care to those you would have previously immediately written off.
-recognize how your new self feels at all times and sit in that feeling
you've done an immense amount of work in 2013 to become a new human. see how that feels and how people respond to you. don't stay in your head too long. respond back with enthusiasm or if need be, protect yourself outwardly.
-read more, write more for FUN
essentially, stop letting academic-work get in the way of being you. let things go if they are too demanding. you will never be "enough" at work because no one will. so let it go and do what you enjoy. try to write or read fiction everyday.
-reach hobby goals
run 5 miles without stopping, knit something really cool, learn how to make something new, cook more, etc. keep setting new goals all year to challenge your creative and physical endeavors
-maintain friendships, make and build new ones
reach out more, reach in more
-be positive, conscientious
try to erase any negative thoughts, or check where they are coming from before saying them. are they worthwhile? will they help you in some way or weigh you down?

the moment is monumentous

hello there. it's lars.
i am feeling WEIRD so i'm going to blog.
i have too much stress in my life so i'm trying to figure out how to reduce it. mostly it comes from trying to pursue DREAMS that may not even be dreams that i would want if i took a minute to think about what i really do want.

i decided i will finish my degree (at least in part, perhaps the whole thing) and try to find a job that doesn't require 80 hours of my week and all of my positive energy.
since making this decision, my world has felt light.

i haven't sat down and thought about how i will do this, or what i will do, but nonetheless i feel that i can do something and be happy. before this, i felt like i could do everything and never be really happy--always grasping for more than i can ever have.

for christmas, i got many books.
i just want to read novels and think about human's weird emotions
and be political and thoughtful and kind
and make some nice dinners and have some projects on my horizon

just tinkering kind of stuff

take a long trip one day that's not bookended by a rush to get somewhere i am moving in my car loaded with all of my stuff--or by my empty bank account

i want to eat pie with my bb and drink coffee in the summertime

i want to smile a lot more than i do now.

almost time for a new years' resolution post.

more to come later.
maybe i will start blogging about my salt block adventures.

IT IS ALMOST SUMMER

WHICH MEANS:
it is time to make a list.

KELLY: what are we going to do this summer? Oh I know, HANG OUT WITH EACH OTHER YAYAYAY

I started bicycling as transportation again. my thighs hurt but it is beautiful.
I made a resolution to wear only salmon, turquoise, or snake skin shorts over the summer.
I am moving to a new house with a backyard where Reed can run all day long and I can cook burgers and sit and do nothing/read.
I have **summer funding** so I can really do nothing but read. I don't even have to work at the Mall of America THIS YEAR (but maybe next)

SO this summer I think I will:

  • make cold brew iced coffee everyday
  • go camping/to a cabin
  • swimmy
  • ride my bike
  • make a street newspaper
  • get to know my neighbors so I can gossip about them in the paper
  • go to the zoo/imax/mini-golf with family (while hating it)
  • make some food (maybe new recipes)
  • OOOH MAKE RIBS
  • maybe on my new GRILL which i will buy
  • get a hammock
  • hula hoop with my friends
  • have sleepovers
  • look @@ stars
  • build a fire
  • take Reed to the ~~woods~~
  • get ice cream out of a truck
  • project movies in my backyard and sit in kiddie pools
what else should we do!!!

the future (from the 90s)

you know when you have this weird, very clear feeling in your brain that feels as if it's drug induced, but perhaps it is due to coffee & getting some work done? i wrote 5 pages so i am DRUGGED OUT (not really, it just FEELS that way)

dudes are sitting next to me making it very hard for me to concentrate.
some people have boring jobs.

i'm glad that I DON'T. even though my future is less secure.

i live in future anyway so i'm not that worried.

dads

yesterday i saw my dad and then i flew home to minneapolis on an airplane.
at the airport, there was a dad who was showing his son something of interest on his phone. he said "hey, here's that thing that i was telling you about." the dad seemed excited when the son came over and sat next to him, to listen to the story.

i wonder what that feels like.

mediocracy

i feel pretty mediocre. at school, at making/keeping friends. life is annoying hard and i am accepting my mediocracy.

whoops

i forgot about this blog but i remembered when i realized i wanted to read kelly's mango blog so i should hold up my end of the bargain. i have been writing in my 5 year diary. it's really fun to only write three sentences about your day everyday.
this weekend i did nothing, homework wise.
friday: went to chatterbox with sarah & ordered vegan pizza, lol
saturday: woke up went to walmart, bought a dish drainer, travel mugs, face wash, etc; sarah made veggie burgers included blended up leftover vegan pizza, lol; i went to a burlesque show with elizabeth and we schemed about buying coordinated outfits (with sarah) to wear on the day of our three-way birthday party
sunday: brunch with humans. they were nice but i am awkward. took a tub. played skip-bo.
today (monday): watching reedo because he ATE A DUCK TOY and i am afraid he might puke/die/empty my bank account. i hope he doesn't die.

it's spring break next week and i am in my jammies already.
